In addition to the services listed above,
Angelic Hospice provides Pet Therapy, when it is recommended
by the interdisciplinary team.
Pets therapy is an interaction between a person and trained animal. A visit can take place between the
patient, the pet and the pet’s handler, per the patient’s comfort level. Pets have long been known to
lower blood pressure, improve cardiovascular health and diminish overall physical pain. The act of
petting an animal produces an automatic relation response, reducing the amount of medication some patients need.
There are also social and emotional benefits of hospice pet therapy such as lifting a patient’s spirits
and lessening depression. Sometimes the visit will decrease feelings of isolation as well as increase
socialization and encourage communication. Pets have also been shown to reduce boredom and lower anxiety and loneliness.
